Jörmungandr (in Old Norse) the Great Beast, also called the “Midgard Serpent” is a sea-snake or dragon-like being who lives in the ocean that surrounds the visible world. So enormous is he that his body forms a circle around the entirety of Midgard, the realm of men. There the serpent grew so large that it was able to surround the Earth and grasp its own tail.
