The Traveler

I took this painting that I made many years ago, which I have always been fond of, and reworked it into this.
I painted completely over it, maintaining the overall vibe while correcting different technical aspects and giving each shape a fresh, higher-quality appearance.

The painting depicts a traveler in a port who, despite the dark storm that greets her, smiles peacefully as her umbrella transforms the rain into beautiful petals. This alchemy, denoted visually, also applies to the concept connoted by the painting: transmuting perception. The conscious internal process of accepting circumstances; the Seijaku wisdom learned on her journey through the East is her “tool” for facing the storm, graphically represented by the Japanese sunshade.

I adjusted the frame, perspective, and guide lines to achieve a more interesting composition. I like to use golden ratios and the golden spiral to distribute areas or focal points of interest, while creating an intuitive flow of reading to keep the attention within the frame in this type of composition.
