Album cover created for Skyhenge's debut album: The Well of Mimir.
The artwork was intended to have a strong visual impact, evoking a sense of wonder and peace; it features mountains, waterfalls, forests, and a clear reference to Norse mythology and the Well of Mimir, which lies beneath the World Tree: Yggdrasil.
Previous to my work, the band created a Celtic knot symbol, that abstractly represented the mythological tree, as part of their visual identity, but they didn’t yet have a logo as such. So my task involved designing a logo and an illustration that convey a sense of majesty; a visual work that reconnects the viewer with their ancestral roots and their connection to nature.
The arrangement of the landscape forms follows an underlying geometric pattern from Skyhenge’s symbol. While not immediately apparent, the shapes and composition subtly echo its structure, embedding the symbol into the visual design of the artwork to add a subtle sense of mysticism to the piece.
